Health is whol-istic. You can't claim health while allowing your mental, emotional, social, or physical well being to decay.
This is a lesson that has appeared at many points in my life - starting in early childhood.
I’ve been a “fat” girl since I was 9 years old; I had a growth spurt along with my period that rocketed my weight to 140lbs. My mom put me on “not a diet” where I had to count the portions of different food groups I was eating and track everything I ate in a chart. She meant well, but in retrospect this practice was so traumatizing - it told me “I’m not good enough the way I am. I need to lose weight to be accepted. I need to excessively think about what goes in my body and analyze its goodness.”...
As I got older I did pretty much every fad diet you could think of, dabbled in eating disorders of all kinds, over-exercised to achieve the physical look I desired, and took personal training sessions for years with no results. I eventually realized that nothing could fix how I looked on the outside until I came to terms with myself on the inside.
And HONESTLY, skinny never felt as good as feeling full and satisfied after a good meal! And being too sore to walk out of the gym, never quite felt right either… I decided to start feeling good about my choices, whatever they were - and then it started feeling even better to make “good” choices, aka choices that support my goals over choices that take me farther away.
I've grown to have the self-respect for myself that is necessary to guide me towards the best version I could be. The habits I've learned to practice daily, help me to stay mobile, flexible, nourished, and at peace; I want to help you do the same.
There is no room for shame, unworthiness, or embarrassment about what you put in your body here - because together, we are making choices that give us joy, bring us closer to our goals, and fill us with goodness.
I'll use this as a place to share all of my favorite health tips, snacks on the go, recipes, and multicourse meals with you. Feel inspired to try what looks good, play around with different ingredient combinations, and let me know how they turn out.
This health journey looks good on you girl!
